The woodblock print was cleaned, recto and verso, with ground eraser and a soft brush. Insect frass and other accretions were removed with a scalpel. The print was washed in alkalinized water to reduce the acids and discoloration. The discoloration was further reduced using chemical means and the print was washed to remove the chemicals. The print was dried in plane between blotters and under light weight. The tears were mended with Japanese tissue and hinges were attached using wheat starch paste. The print was again dried between blotters and under light weight to insure no planar distortion from the mends or hinges.
